24th annual art awards celebrates Marquette arts & culture


MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Artwork on the Mountain weekend in Marquette closed out Sunday evening with an awards present recognizing native artists.

It was the 24th City of Marquette Annual Art Awards present — hosted at Marquette Mountain Ski Area.

All had been invited to this free purple carpet occasion.

Eleven individuals had been awarded for his or her impression to the town’s arts and tradition — together with TV6′s personal Andrew LaCombe for the 2021 winner of the Metropolis of Marquette Arts Volunteer Award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr. Stephen Grugin — going 20 years as Northern Michigan College’s (NMU) Director of Bands; Conductor and Creative Director of the Marquette Metropolis Band since 2012; and serving because the principal trombonist within the Marquette Symphony Orchestra.

“I’m presenting for Dr. Steve Grugin. I do the voice for the Wildcats Marching Band at Northern. So, I’ve been studying his scripts for years and I’m so blissful and honored to have the ability to give him this. So proud to current for the humanities tonight,” mentioned Marquette Arts & Tradition’s new Committee Chair Rusty Bowers.

That is the primary ever Art at the Mountain competition at Marquette Mountain.
